Located in the marlin fishing capital of the world, top sport fishing resort Marina Fiesta offers the chance for anglers to test their skills and charter anything from a traditional panga to an 80-foot luxury sport fishing yacht for an adventure on the high seas.
With a host of tournaments and fishing opportunities throughout the year in Cabo, Marina Fiesta previews some of the best chances to hook a prize fish in 2014:
East Cape Dorado Shoot Out
Held July 19, the East Cape Dorado Shoot Out averages 130 entrants, with a $500 entry fee, despite jackpots that can reach upwards of $80,000. The East Cape Dorado shootout has a simple format, with the highest weight total of dorado winning.
Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore Tournament
With a base entry of $1,500, the East Cape Offshore Tournament features three fishing days from August 5-9. Anglers compete in separate categories to hook blue and black marlin, tuna and dorado.
Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore Tournament
The Los Cabos Offshore Tournaments runs by the same standards as the East Cape Offshore Tournament, except the dates are Oct. 17-19.
Los Cabos Billfish Tournament
Beginning in mid-October, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament will be one of the last sport fishing opportunities of the season. Last year’s winners took home more than $300,000 in cash and prizes after hooking a 625-pound blue marlin on the competition’s first day.
Lasting Oct. 14-18, the tournament features a host of categories. The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament pays the top three teams that catch the largest fish in three eligible billfish species. There are also optional marlin, tuna, wahoo and dorado jackpots.
Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament
Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin Tournament runs Oct. 21-25 with a base entry fee of $5,000. Teams that want to compete in every category will be required to pay $71,500, yet this tournament is known as the “World’s Richest Fishing Event.” Last year, over $3 million in prize money was paid out. Only blue and black marlin will count toward tournament results, and fish must weigh at least 300 pounds to be eligible.
Cabo Tuna Jackpot
Last year’s winners took home almost $250,000 thanks to snagging a 192-pound yellowfin tuna. This year’s Cabo Tuna Jackpot will run from Nov. 5-8, and teams must pay $800 each to enter.
