WTS International, the association whose mission is to build the future of transportation through the global advancement of women, announced that 13 members were elected to its 2014 - 2016 Board of Directors. In addition, 11 members were appointed to the Board of Directors of WTS Foundation, WTS International’s associated 501c(3) charity.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, WTS International seeks to attract, retain, and advance women in transportation. As the industry's premier multi-modal association, WTS boasts a network of more than 5,000 transportation professionals—women and men from across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Every transportation mode is represented, as is every service within the industry. From federal leaders to engineers and planners, the WTS membership base represents nearly 1,500 companies and 400 agencies in more than 90 cities. WTS Foundation has provided more than $1 million in scholarships to deserving women throughout the transportation industry, supporting the next generation of transportation professionals and advancing the principles of WTS.
With the incoming WTS International board, Marcia Ferranto, President and CEO of WTS International, feels that the association is poised to have an even greater impact on the transportation industry. “The new Board of Directors is an incredible group of industry leaders at the highest levels, and they represent the modes and sectors that make up our membership, which represents every transportation mode and a multitude of disciplines. They are each 100% aligned with WTS International’s efforts to tackle the transportation workforce development issue with programs that attract, retain, and advance women to high-level positions in both the public and private sectors,” said Ferranto.

As President of URSC, incoming WTS Chair Swaim-Staley leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive master plan for Union Station in Washington, DC. “I’ve been privileged to be a part of WTS for more than 20 years. I first joined WTS as part of the Baltimore chapter because I felt it was a great opportunity to learn and network with both the public and private sectors. Being a part of the association now as Chair of the WTS International Board of Directors is an incredible opportunity to help lead WTS forward on its mission to expand opportunities for women at the highest level of the transportation industry,” said Swaim-Staley, who is currently serving as Vice Chair.
A new member to the WTS International Board of Directors, Susan Martinovich, who’s career path has included leading Nevada’s Department of Transportation, says she is honored to be part of the Board: “When I look outside the traditional way of conducting business and building relationships, I look to WTS members for guidance and advice as well as the educational opportunities the association offers. WTS grows people and gives women, especially, the tools for their success that spill over into the success of their agencies and the people around them,” she added.
The incoming members of both the WTS International Board and the WTS Foundation Board will assume their roles at the WTS business meeting on Friday, May 16, 2014, in Portland, OR, concurrent with the 2014 WTS Annual Conference.
