Columbia Southern University (CSU) education representatives recently donated several large boxes of hotel toiletries accrued from their travels across the U.S. to the Christian Service Center and Gulf Shores United Methodist Church in Gulf Shores.

“It was the travel reps’ chance to give back to the less fortunate in our local community,” said CSU Outreach representative Marilyn Smith. “We have the opportunity to travel around the nation and have access to goods that people need and we have an excess amount. It was a good opportunity to pass along the items from our hotel rooms to others truly in need.”

The online university’s Outreach team, which calls the donation program Smiles for Miles, travels to cities for conferences and events to promote CSU and its outstanding online degree programs. About 10 members of the group participated in Smiles for Miles by supplying shampoo/conditioner, shower caps, lotion, soaps, coffee, tea, tote bags and other items to the Christian Service Center and Gulf Shores United Methodist Church in December.

CSU, based in Orange Beach, Ala., offers online associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in various fields such as fire administration, occupational safety and health, criminal justice and business administration.
